What to Bring on Your
Big Game Hunt in Alberta
Appropriate clothing and personal gear is necessary to ensure the fullest enjoyment of your hunting adventure. Hunters in Alberta are not required to wear Blaze Orange. Hunters should expect cooler temperatures, with the possibility of snow from the middle of October to the end of November. The following is a list of items we suggest you include in your gear.
- For The Hunt
- Rifle and 60 rounds of ammunition - We suggest at least a .264 Magnum caliber with a good variable scope.
- Archery Clients - Bow (50 - 75 lb.) & 2 dozen arrows ( min. 24") with one dozen broad heads (min. 1")
- Binoculars - (10x42 or larger)
- Range Finder
- Spotting Scope (optional)
- Personal Items
- Wool or down filled jacket preferably camouflage (warm is the key)
- Snow camouflage coveralls/overalls (all white is fine)
- 1 or 2 long sleeved heavy wool shirts and 2 long sleeved light cotton shirts
- 2 pairs heavy duty pants i.e.: jeans/camouflage jeans
- Wool pants/overalls/hydro-fleece
- 1 pair warm hunting boots suitable to wear while on stand all day (800 gram Thinsulate or more)
- 1 pair lighter hunting boots (archery or rifle optional) best for archery spot and stalk hunts
- 1 pair camp shoes i.e.: running shoes
- 1 cap and/or toque/stalking cap
- several pairs of underwear and 2 pair long underwear (Under-armour works great)
- 3 pair heavy wool socks and several pair regular socks
- 1 good quality rain suit with hood (archery hunts)
- 1 knife
- 2 pair gloves (warm)
- flashlight with spare batteries or headlamp
- camera and film or video with tapes and spare batteries
- daypack
- personal toiletries and medication
- duffel bag for above items
- Your personal bag of tricks (calls, scents )
- Alarm Clock
Whitetail/Mule Deer Hunts utilize lodge or motel accommodation therefore sleeping bags are not required. You should include quality, warm clothing heavy mitts. Temperatures during Alberta's Whitetail season can drop to -30 degrees below zero!
